What have you been up to since WRHS: I got married right out of high school and started a family right away. I have 3 beautiful daughters ages 13, 10 & a soon to be 3 year old. I'm now a full-time, single parent, full-time student at ASU, majoring in Communication with a minor in Interior Design I want to start my very own decorating business and a part-time worker. So I'm a very busy person these days. I've noticed that only alumni's from the 60's and 70's are listed on this site. So I would like to introduce myself through my uncle and auntie, most of you will probably know who they are. My uncle Vernon Roanhorse graduated in 1973, a very outgoing individual during those days, to my understanding. My aunt Regina Roanhorse also graduated from Window Rock in 1979. Hello to everyone who graduated in the 60's and 70's!
Your Favorite Memory of WRHS My Junior year had to be the most memorable and greatest time in high school of course the other years were not bad either. I was the class president during that year and because of the status, I had the ability to form my very own gang. We called ourselves, "The Bonfire Gang." The gang formed during homecoming week. I recruited some classmates to assist with chopping and hauling wood. The individuals who signed up for the task, became apart of the gang, which consisted of 20 people. Yes, the 20 of us formed our very own gang, gave each other funny nicknames and spent as much time as we could with each other. My nickname? "Master!" Funny right? The rest of the nicknames were in Navajo. I had a friend who was pretty big, so we named him "big boy" in Navajo. Because he was not Navajo, he had a hard time pronouncing his Navajo nickname. We did so many crazy things that year. It was the best!!!!
Messages to other Classmates: I would like to address the "Bon fire Gang" first. HELLO!!! We need to get together to plan a bonfire gang reunion! I already talked with Clint about the idea and he's all for it. We were thinking of renting a log cabin somewhere for a weekend and just hang out and do a lot of catching up. Please contact me, if you happen to log onto this site.

To my other classmates.....Can you believe our 20 year reunion is already approaching? I sure hope to be invited this time around, it took a lot of work putting together the 10 year one.

If you have time, write me and let me know how your doing. If your in the Mesa area, contact me.....we can have lunch or something.

Take care and be happy!
Comments about this Web Page: I commend the individuals who got it started and put it together. Good Job! Keep up the great work!

What have you been up to since WRHS: I was in the All-Indian Upward Bound Program since a Junior in High School. After graduating from WRHS, I went to ASU for 1 year and got married. I lived in Phoenix for 10 years, then moved to Oregon for 2 years and have been in CA now since 1986. I divorced after 22 years of marriage and have 2 beautiful daughters, ages 24 and 27 that also live close by. I've been waiting to be a grandmother for some time because all of my friends have grandchildren and I really feel left out. Although my older daughter is planning to get married soon, neither expect to have chidren any time soon.

My career ended up in the Commercial Insurance field in Sales and Executive Risk Management Services for large corporations. A short time ago, I was also marketing and selling risk management programs and services to tribal governments in all the western states owning Indian Gaming casino operations, primarily tribes that were members of the National Indian Gaming Association headquartered in WA D.C. Although I did not obtain my college degree, because it just was not a priority for me at the time, hind sight 20/20, I wish now that I had made time for it. Over the years, I obtained several educational degrees and certifications in Insurance and Risk Management Programs. Working with Presidents, CEO's and CFO's and other top level executives of large corporations has been very challenging.
Your Favorite Memory of WRHS Some of my favorite memories of WRHS, like so many, was white washing the WR Scouts rocks on freshman initiation day and rubbing arms with the upper class seniors; homecoming games; being a Varsity Cheer Leader in my senior year and the Scouts winning the State Basketball Championship game with I believe, if my memory is not failing me,Chuck Foster making the last second shot that won the game.
Messages to other Classmates: After viewing this website for the second time, I noticed not many classmates of 71 are represented here so, I would like to take the initiative and ask all other classmates to participate and tell your story.
Comments about this Web Page: This website is amazing. I am very impressed with the talent and effort of everyone involved in its creation and proud to be in the company of my brother's and sister's. It's like coming home.

What have you been up to since WRHS: I left WRHS in 1973 and moved back to California for my last two years of high school. In 1980 I moved to Texas and stayed there until December 2001 when we moved to Park City, Utah. I had some interesting and fun jobs such as working for the Purchasing Department at D/FW Airport in Dallas for 5 years and in the Accounting Department at Compaq Computer in Houston for 10 years. My husband is retired and I am not working, so we are free to spend summers either in San Diego at our boat, or riding the Harley all over our new state, with a few trips to Las Vegas squeezed in. We are really looking forward to the winters so we can go skiing. Think snow!!
Your Favorite Memory of WRHS White-washing the WR with the seniors from the Class of 73, my first prom, my first date, Miss Hugghins, Mr. Rae and that horrible geometry that I have never used, Mr. and Mrs. Case, the innocence and the freedom to go to school safely, the many friends that I have been able to keep up with after almost 30 years - Carol Radcliffe Rose, Rodney Hewitt, Ryan Montgomery, Susan Shoultz Jungbauer, Phyllis Leiferman, Dawn Phelps Sells, Terry Weaver, Susan Ramsey West, Mike Ramsey, Kathy Mayberry Cochran, Mike Mayberry and my brother David!
Messages to other Classmates: I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me. I absolutely loved living in Window Rock and going to school there and I remember almost everyone from the classes of 71-76 as if I was just there yesterday!
Comments about this Web Page: Thank you for making this great website. It is so fun to reminisce.

What have you been up to since WRHS: When I graduated from high school I made big plans to become a nurse, but being introduced to the program I changed my mind. So I decided to become a teacher. I graduated from UNM with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I came back to W/R to get my first teaching job and I've been here since. I got my Master's from NAU in 2001 in Bilingual/Multicultural Education. I plan on getting my PhD. before I get too old. I still don't have a family of my own, but I am raising my little sister. I'm trying to be a good role model for her to follow.
Your Favorite Memory of WRHS There are so many, but there are two which stand out in my mind

Sitting outside of Dunkin Donuts after dances and talking with everyone. We were so good we went straight home afterwards.

Traveling to away games in the bus singing old school songs Timmy T, DeBarge, New Edition, and Stevie B. Yvonne will know what I'm talking about!!!
Messages to other Classmates: Hi everyone!!! It's me Kaye. I just want to wish all of you the best and keep following your dreams. May God Bless each and everyone of you.

What have you been up to since WRHS: I've been too many places and done too many things to list them here. The important things? Married 27 years, 26 yr old son about to be a dad and a 22 yr old daughter, both in the Armed forces. A loving family, close friends, good health, neat old home 1896 Victorian, plenty of animals, enjoyable career and everything else is just "stuff".
Your Favorite Memory of WRHS Ditching to Wheatfield, whitewashing the WR, Mr. Rae teaching us to make a curve out of straight lines, the funny noise Mr. Seal made with his nose... phmmmph, using the Driver's Ed car to go to Grand Canyon HS for the model United Nations conference, bringing a whole telephone pole to the homecoming bonfire, the gravel pits, an Ortega burger and most importantly, good friends... and remembering those that are no longer with us.

What have you been up to since WRHS: I've been visiting this website for about 2-3 months now and thought it was time to sign the guest book.

I've been raising my sons, John & Daniel. I worked with the Fed Mart Corp for about 3 yrs in Window Rock & in Tucson. I have been working with the Indian Health Service for 25 yrs+ and currently work at the Area Office in St. Michaels. My youngest son Daniel is married. He and Traci have blessed me with a grandson, Elijah Justice Norris. John is still single but looking & still has no children. I take care of mom who still lives in Fort Defiance - dad & his new girlfriend live up the street from us. I spend a lot of time with the family & love to watch my niece Kelly, my nephew Billy & his daughter Analise play softball in the summer time. I still go to as many WR games as I possibly can.

I was a PTO president, vice president, secretary & Bazaar chairman for the St. Michaels Indian School when my sons were enrolled there. I served on the WRHS Interscholastic Council from about 1995 to 2002. Some of the current school board members decided to get rid of the group but that's another story.

I'm still single but taking applications --- drug addicts, drunks & mental cases need not apply.

I helped Claudia, Mitzie and Wanda with one of the mega reunions they organized here in WR. They did a great job and I have yet to attend one of the reunions they host down in the Phoenix area.

Your Favorite Memory of WRHS My extra-special friendships with Vicki & "Snoopy", but let's not forget all my other friends also who all hold a special place in my heart Tim, Sharyl, Karen, Jerry, David & Lacey, Tony, Hubby, etc, etc, etc...; being in pom pons except my senior year when I was black-balled, Coach DiPalo who treated me with respect even though I was single & pregnant my senior yr, Mr. Bowen who we all loved for many different reasons and just being a kid who couldn't get away with very much since dad was Chief of Police and mom was his Administrative Assistant.

What have you been up to since WRHS: Upon graduating in '78, I attended MCC and Dine'College, and worked within the retailing, banking, and telecommunication industries. I finally completed my B.S in Family Studies & Child Development from ASU this past May 2002. I'm currently a PT student at NAU working on my M.A in Educational Counseling Human Services and getting certification in Substance Abuse. While focusing on myself, I also take care of my two children Jake Martin 17 and Alyssa Marie 14, not to mention my husband Martin or as some of you may know him as "Marty". As a family we continue the "Fighting Scouts" pride. Our son plays varsity football like his dad, and our daughter is a very outgoing & bubbly cheerleader like her mom. Through them we Martin & I continue to keep the spirit of the Window Rock Fighting Scouts alive by actively participating in the booster club, and involvement in WRHSs' academics & atheletic programs.
Your Favorite Memory of WRHS As a transfer student from Morenci High School and attending Window Rock my last two years, I remembered being taught the Scouts School Song, and feeling the tears of pride, respect, and honor to be a representative of Window Rock "Fighting Scouts". I quickly adapted, and consider myself a true "Fighting Scout", not a Morenci "Wildcat" :- Today, while organizing tailgate parties for our football team, I hand out the words to the School Song and make it a point to sing together our "Window Rock Fighting Scouts School Song", hoping they to will feel the pride, respect and honor of being a "FIGHTING SCOUT"

What have you been up to since WRHS: I actually moved from Good Shepherd Mission the middle of my sixth grade year to Holbrook, AZ. I have been best friends with Patsy Cowan Michele since we were 8 years old in the third grade. She has pretty much kept me up to date on the class.
Your Favorite Memory of WRHS Recently, when I was going through a box of old scrapbook stuff, I ran across
a letter I wrote in Mrs. Martin's 5th Grade Class. Everyone in the class wrote to Congress in Washington, D.C. to ask for a U.S. flag that flew over the nation's capital. My letter was the one chosen to send. I still have the letter and the response. I thought it interest that The Flag was mentioned on this website.
Messages to other Classmates: I loved the 5th Grade Class picture. I remember many of the class members. That was the year that the school bussed
fifth graders over to the Episcopal Mission where they rented rooms for three 5th grade class rooms. I thought it was neat because I lived at the mission, so all I had to do was cross the road and I was at school.

We're celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary this August. We have four beautiful children, Cheryl, Gabriel, Sheila and Michael. We also have 5 awesome grandchildren.
Worked at a couple of dead-end jobs in the area while waiting to be selected to an Apprentice Program with the IBEW. Graduated with an AA degree from Maricopa Technical College in Phoenix and received my License as a Journeyman Wiremanin 1976.
Money was good but I was always looking to do something else of which, my #1 dream was to travel. So, after much deliberation and research I signed up Uncle Sam's Canoe Club U.S. Navy in 1979.
I spent most of my military career here at on Whidbey Island Naval Air Station Whidbey Island I trained as an Aviation Electronics Technician and worked on two aircraft platforms the A6-E Intruder and later the EA-6B Prowler.
My dream of traveling became a reality. I've been in every corner of the world, served in two wars Desert Storm and Desert Fox. I just retired from Uncle Sam's Canoe Club in November of 1999.

Messages to other Classmates: To all of the Class of 1966, Hello again!
I was excited to find out from my sister Karen Krause Barbour about this site. Although I didn't get to graduate with you in 1966 since my father Paul Krause was transferred to Chinle, Arizona where I graduated. I went to college at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah and graduated with a BA in Graphic Design/Illustration. I worked in Utah for a while then moved to the San Francisco area about 20 years ago. I worked here as an Art Director for a cosmetic company and several other companies that you may recognize. What a kick to see Ronald Banally, Sherry Hicks, Bunkie Whitman, Walter Seal. Hey, Patsy Dale, remember the times you and I and other kids in the neighborhood acted out all the movies we saw.
I would love to see you all again. I hold many fond memories of growing up in Window Rock from the age of 4 to 14. Hey, Larry Nelson where are you living now? I remember still the day I met you when you and your brothers came down to our house while Larry Robertson and I were digging a fort on the west side of our house. Be great to see you and your family again. Feel free to contact me at spkrause66@hotmail.com

Comments: Hello WRHS Graduates! This web site is awesome and very impressionable. Thanks to those who initiated and added to this fine memorabilia. I have attended only the 1988 and 1992 WRHS Reunions and unfortunately have missed the current ones. Working at Window Rock Unified School District #8 for the last 24 years as a teacher, Principal, Associate Superintendent, & Interim Superintendent of Schools provided me the greatest opportunity of seeing many former classmates and their children in the communities of Fort Defiance, Window Rock, Sawmill, St. Michaels, Oak Springs, and Red Lake. To play a role in educating former classmates' children and grandchilden was the best experience in my life. Those of you that moved on from the Window Rock community, it's been awhile since I've seen you. I do look forward to seeing many of you at the next reunion which, I will attend. My three children attended Window Rock USD#8 from K-12 grades the last one graduated in 1994. All three attended A.S.U. and have graduated. Yea! I can now go back to school and work on my doctorate. So much for now until we all meet again.
Messages to other Classmates: Get the word out to other former classmates and WRHS graduates to sign the Guestbook. We want to know what you have been doing since WRHS. Thanks to those that contributed to the fine planning of these recent events.

be able to attend the WRHS 2002 Reunion.
Although I did not graduate with my class of 64, I was part of the eighth grade graduation and so looking forward to high school when my Dad got transferred to Gallup. My brother Bryce got to complete his senior year in Window Rock, thanks to the generous hospitality of the Nelsons in Window Rock. Window Rock formed, I feel, the best part of me. I achieved my highest there thanks to the teachers, especially Mrs. Martin and Mr. Bowen. If I've any regrets it's only that I wasn't allowed to graduate with my classmates that to this day hold a special, reserved place in my memories and heart. This 2002 reunion was so exceptional that I think the "scattered Spirits" truly had a spiritual reunion of hearts greeting hearts. I so humbly thank all of you that were and are a part of this. And please let's all keep in touch for Window Rock is beyond mere words in value as are all and each of you!
I thank our Heavenly Father for each of you. Patsy Dale Gilbert

Comments: Hi Everyone,
For years I wondered when and how we would all get together and find time to see each other again and then I was told of this site. What a fantastic age we now live and enjoy, to have the technology to just sit in our homes and offices and just plug back into the REAL whole. I try to get back to Window Rock for the Fair whenever I'm in the country and see friends, but only found few between the years. Once I ran into Velma Hadley, TEE and Rosalind E., What a pleasant surprise that was. I married in 73 and have been living and travelling since. Have three boys, 22, 26, 28. One grand-daughter. I'm a full-time grandmother here in Houston, Texas. As soon as we find a suitable Nanny, I'll be heading back to S.A. and Manama, BH. I love to browse through all the news and see fotos of classmates. Are there plans to extend this website to include other news and fotos of class of the seventies? I think your doing the greatest service for us all by this web-site, it has brought me back home, in spirit and down to Earth in mind and body. Thank you all for your vision and hard work that must have gone into this project. Most of us did not grow up with the use of computers and now look at us, AMAZING!!!!! Good luck and May the Great Spirit Bless you all.

Am living in Gallup and working in Window Rock again. I periodically cycle back through there. I've spent time in South Dakota, Albuquerque, NM, Berkeley California twice for a total of 9 years Sacramento California, Lakeport, CA Lake County, Palm Springs, CA. Schurz, NV and Carson City NV. Phoenix 2 and good ole Gallup 2. I was married twice and have one son who is 23, newly a dad and husband. My son Jeff as a Junior played post center on the first ever WR State Basketball 3-A Arizona Champions in 1995. His first love is football as he was 6'6" and weighed 215 at Window Rock. He and his wife Kendra live in Mesa so I get to the Valley frequently to see my new grand daughter.
Graduated from ASU with a BS in Nursing in 1970. Went to the UC School of Public Health in Berkeley in 1971 - saw the last of the Berkeley riots from my apartment window. Have worked as a health administrator for thirty years. Am still enjoying my work.
Hope to hear from lots of people as a result of this page. Until I hear from whomever....Lydia

Hello to my long lost friends! I think you have done a wonderful job Larry in developing and maintaining this site. It would be great if I could get away to come to the reunion in Mesa next month. I have a thousand memories I'd like to share - like the time the Polynesian slap-dancing troupe came to do an assembly bare chested in grass skirts twirling fire sticks. Oh the football locker room heard nothing but the sound of young wanna-be slap dancers for weeks after... or the party at the Brady's where we threw the girls in the air with a blanket - Beach Party Fort Defiance??? I'm alive and well in California and would like to hear from you!
